Do you have tips for loading of steel shot in a shotgun, black powder?
I have a shotgun that BP ok for steel shot with a chromed bore 12 meters. I have not much penetration with # 2 and # 4 steel shot birds (using ballistic gel) to 30 meters. I get penetration at 2 1 / 2 inches in the block of gel # 2 steel shot birds. I am perplexed! I tried different loads and stuff, what gives? # 4 lead shot to give me 5 + inches in the same block.
I am not updating my follow-up may be defective. But I thought that was the reason most chargers shotgun shell was fired more than a steel bulkhead. You know that lead shot is heavier than steel allow in order to penetrate. A lead No. 4 (3.2 oz.) Shooting is almost the same weight of steel # 2 (3.5 oz.) And a smaller diameter. Because the speeds are almost identical, the pellet smaller diameter of approximately equal weight is likely to penetrate deeper. Around here, most hunters of ducks and geese use B or BB shot to the scope and penetration of steel shot to improve. BTW, tungsten is suddenly economically viable? Depending on what I've heard and read, it behaves very similar to lead shot when it comes to penetration.
